Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting: Uganda 2017
Governments, young leaders and youth stakeholders from Commonwealth member countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, Americas and the Pacific will gather in Uganda for the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting.
The summit, from 31 July to 4 August 2017, is hosted by the Government of Kampala in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat.
Held every four years, the 9th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting (9CYMM) comes as the world’s youth population reaches a record 1.8 billion people aged 15 to 29.
Today the youth sector stands at a crossroads, with pressure on governments to do more for their young citizens with fewer resources, and growing aspirations by young people to contribute to their societies.
Resourcing and financing youth development
The theme of the conference is ‘Resourcing and financing youth development, empowering young people’. It will enable government ministers and senior officials to engage with young leaders and youth sector stakeholders, share good practices, take stock of pioneering initiatives and forge new partnerships.
Youth leaders and stakeholders
A Youth Leaders Forum and a Stakeholders Forum precede the Ministers Meeting. Recommendations from both forums will be presented to participating governments.
Delegates will discuss measures to help young people find decent jobs, achieve equal access to health and education and to enhance engagement and participation in national life.
